Abstract

The process of implementation of international human rights standards in Ukraine, in particular in the context of cooperation with the United Nations is examined. The article makes a significant contribution to the research of the process of integrating international standards into Ukraine’s legal system and provides recommendations for improving national legislation to ensure effective human rights protection. Particular attention is paid to the historical development of human rights in Ukraine, from Kyivska Rus to the present. The author provides a detailed analysis of the process of integrating major international human rights conventions into Ukrainian legislation, including the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, and others. The efforts made by Ukraine to align its national legislation with international standards are described, as well as the establishment of specialised bodies for monitoring human rights compliance. The author analyses Ukraine’s relations with the United Nations in the field of human rights, in particular through the mechanisms of the United Nations. The challenges related to human rights violations in the temporarily occupied territories and the problems encountered when filing cases with UN monitoring bodies are considered.
